Rosalia - The Sweet Region
At the foot of the Rosalia Mountains lies Austria's "sweet region". At a distance of about a 20 min car ride, you can see the fortress Forchtenstein, which thrones on top of a huge dolomite rock. It was the retreat and treasure chamber of the Esterházy princes. The fortress can be visited daily from April through October. The region, which was baptised "sweet region" due to its riches in fruit spoils its guests with excellent wines, sweet strawberries, chestnuts and other treats.
On the way to Mattersburg one passes the Domäne Pöttelsdorf: these wine cellars show the path of a grapes "from the vineyard into the glass" year round. At the end of the visit, the sommelier invites to a wine tasting and elevates this experience to new heights.

The Wine Idyll - Wine Growing Region Southern Burgenland
The exquisite wines of the region have many admirers far beyond the borders of Burgenland. The leading varieties are Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling, which are pressed here with their typical characteristics. A special and rare delicacy grows in Burgenland's far south: the so-called Uhudler. It is a special grape that is completely unaltered and natural and yields wines with a very fruity taste that reminds of berries.
The Wine Museum Moschendorf, the Cellar's Quarter Heiligenbrunn and the nature park or a simple wine tasting at any of the wine makers of the region make any day a great one in the wine-idyll of southern Burgenland.
